Kenyan Footballer refuses to rejoin Tanzania club over claims of Sorcery

Even though Kenyan midfielder Humphrey Mieno has expressed his interest in returning to his former Kenyan Premier League side, Sofapaka, (Tanzanian team) Azam FC are not willing to let him go easily.

The player did not rejoin Azam after the December festivities, with the club officials complaining that he has not been taking their calls, neither has he been responding to emails.

Now, Azam says they are willing to budge and release the player, but on condition that Sofapaka refunds the KSh1.3million, the club paid to sign him from Sofapaka a year ago.

“We spent a lot of money to sign the player and we cannot let him go before he serves his contract. The only other option is for the club to pay us the full amount we used to sign him last year, which amounts to TShs. 24million (approximately Kshs. 1.3million).

To punish the player even further, Azam held back his December salary, which they say they will release, when he gives them proper communication of his whereabouts.

Among the reasons that the international midfielder cites for leaving Azam is sorcery, which he says is rife in the team.

“The club is ok and has been paying me well and on time. However, there are elements of sorcery and witchcraft in the team, which contradict my religious beliefs,” he said.
